I have been fortunate to lead a fulfilling life, largely shaped by my dedication to veterinary medicine. This career has not only allowed me to build lasting friendships and collaborate with remarkable colleagues but also to travel to extraordinary places around the world.
Growing up in Bogotá, Colombia, I developed a deep passion for animals and the natural world. Following this passion, pursuing a career in Veterinary Medicine seemed like a natural choice. My father, a veterinarian with a notable career, worked for multinational animal health companies in Colombia during the 1970s, including Ralston Purina and Rhône-Poulenc. Over 40 years ago, he founded his own Colombian animal health company, INVET. After earning my DVM degree, I continued my education in the United States to further advance my expertise.
Ever since I have been happy to call Athens, GA my home.
I have served on the board of Project Safe for six years, leveraging my expertise to assist animals displaced by domestic violence. I find great fulfillment in supporting women, children, and their pets through this work.
In addition, I am committed to eradicating human deaths from canine rabies by 2030. I advocate for the importance of vaccinating cats against rabies in Latin America, where unvaccinated cats are a major cause of human fatalities from this zoonotic disease. My efforts include bringing the RITA (Rabies In The Americas) conference to Colombia and organizing One Health and rabies forums at international veterinary conferences.
I look forward to continuing my journey with you. My greatest joy comes from using my experience and expertise to improve our processes, our businesses, and our countries.
